As part of our “Artist in Residence Program,” Jennifer Basile spent the week without kindergarten-fifth grade students. Jennifer Basile is a visual artist from New York who has been residing in Miami, Florida for over 20 years. Basile received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Miami and a Masters of Fine Arts from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She is also a Professor of Studio Art at Miami-Dade College. Basile has received numerous residencies, awards and recognition across the country, such as Vermont Studio Center, Kala Art Institute and the Jentel Foundation. Being an environmentalist, with a deeply rooted interest in science, Basile explores our surrounding landscapes, many from our National and State Parks, as her primary subject. Basile’s preferred medium of printmaking allows her to create traditionally based landscapes on a grand scale. Her hand-pulled prints from relief blocks, that are cut sheets of wood or linoleum, envelop the viewer while inspiring them to preserve our precious surroundings. We are grateful to Sergio and Luisa Cernuda of the LNS Gallery for providing our students with such a fabulous art experience. You may view Jennifer Basile’s artworks here.
